Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation

The Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation (or Rush) was founded in 1995 by three brothers, media mogul Russell Simmons, artist and activist Danny Simmons and Joseph "Rev. Run" Simmons of Run-DMC fame. Rush is dedicated to overcoming the barriers of access between disenfranchised communities and people of color and the diverse art and culture resources of New York City and its surrounding region. Our interrelated range of programs include free, hands-on arts education for underserved youth ages 2-20 in New York and New Jersey, both in our own spaces during out-of-school time and through weekly residencies in five partner public schools; the goal of these programs is deep learning grounded in art, to build resiliency, life skills and academic performance in at-risk youth. Our Gallery Program maintains two professional galleries, one in Manhattan and the other in Brooklyn, that provide career support, exhibition opportunities and residencies to emerging artists and curators, mostly those of color. Rush Education programs directly serve over 3,000 students annually, and the Rush Gallery program exhibits the work of over 100 artists every year, welcomes over 10,000 gallery visitors annually and serves as a classroom and inspiration source for our students.

City of Hope is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of people with cancer, diabetes and other serious illnesses. Our mission is to transform the future of health care by turning science into a practical benefit, hope into reality. We accomplish this by providing outstanding care, conducting innovative research and offering vital education programs focused on eliminating these diseases. Founded in 1913, City of Hope is one of only 41 comprehensive cancer centers in the nation, as designated by the National Cancer Institute. Our role as leaders in patient care, basic and clinical research, and the translation of science into tangible benefit is widely acknowledged. Our community includes research associates, scientists, doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, graduate students, fundraising specialists, marketing professionals, volunteers and an extensive support staff. We are united by our desire to find cures, save lives and transform the future of health. Every discovery we make and every new treatment we create gives people the chance to live longer, better and more fully. City of Hope continues to be a pioneer of patient centered care and remains committed to its tradition of exceptional care for patients, families and communities. Each day, we live out our credo: "There is no profit in curing the body, if, in the process, we destroy the soul."

Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity (UK)

The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity is the only charity that provides emotional, physical and financial wellbeing support to the construction community and their families. A crucial element of our strategy is to provide a wide range of free and widely available pro-active resources to support the industry.

Mates in Mind (UK)

As a charity, Mates in Mind aims to provide clear information to employers about the available support and guidance on mental health and wellbeing, and how they can address this within their organisations.

Construction Sport Foundation (UK)

Construction Sport is built to provide sporting opportunities for construction workers to enjoy themselves, in doing so this allows us to let off steam in a positive environment. Within the Construction industry physical health and safety has been prioritised, the protocols that have been introduced have been made significant improvements, the statistics prove this, on-site fatalities have dropped significantly over the past decades, but that’s just half the battle. Construction Sport has been launched to give the Construction workforce the opportunity of much needed downtime, away from the tools, away from laptops, away from the stresses of day to day life. By doing this we create opportunities for people to enjoy themselves, let their hair down and address their mental health. By building teams, we save lives.

Mates in Construction (AUS)

Suicide is everyone's business. MATES is a charity established in 2008 to reduce the high level of suicide among Australian construction workers. MATES provides suicide prevention through community development programs on sites, and by supporting workers in need through case management and a 24/7 help line. We serve the construction industry in Queensland and Northern Territory, New South Wales, South Australia and Western Australia, the Energy industry in Queensland and New South Wales, and nationally to the Mining industry. MATES was established in response to a major report on suicide (the ‘AISRAP Report’) within the Queensland Commercial Building and Construction Industry. This report found that suicide rates in the industry were higher than the Australian average for men, and that youth suicide within the industry could be as much as 2.38 times more common than among other young Australian men. The MATES program is based on the simple idea that suicide is everyone’s business. If the building and construction industry in Australia is to improve the mental health and well-being of workers and reduce suicide, then it cannot be left to mental health professionals: everyone in the industry must play their part. Working for the construction industry in general, MATES is independent of employers and unions and never works directly for an employer. Programs are delivered across the industry regardless of employer or union affiliation.
