The Michener Institute is Canada's leading post-secondary educational institution for applied health sciences. Founded in 1958 and located in downtown Toronto, Michener's unique combination of theory, laboratory instruction and clinical education prepares health professionals to meet the growing demands of Canada's health care system. Library services are delivered through 7 branches and a virtual branch rich in digital content. Our branches provide meeting, children and study spaces, safe teen areas, public computers, programs, and over 750,000 library items. In 2012, we had 4.7 million in-branch and online visits that accounted for 4.5 million books, movies and music borrowed and 103,339 people took part in our library programs.
TIRF is a national, independent charitable road safety institute. Since its inception in 1964, TIRF has become internationally recognized for its accomplishments in identifying the causes of road crashes and developing programs and policies to address them effectively. Our work in reducing the risks for young drivers through such measures as graduated licensing, and our work on reducing the problems of drinking and driving through such measures as ignition interlocks and graduated penalties has won international acclaim. The U'mista Cultural Society was incorporated under the British Columbia Societies Act on March 22, 1974. Since that time, it has worked towards fulfilling the mandate to ensure the survival of all aspects of cultural heritage of the Kwakwaka'wakw. To facilitate the accomplishment of this mandate, the Board of Directors, composed of any person who is an individual, family of honorary member and can trace ancestry to a member of any tribe of the Kwakwaka'wakw, is responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring all policy.
St. Andrew's is recognized by the United Church as the primary centre for theological education and ordination in the Prairie region. It offers theological education and training to candidates for ministry, to lay people interested in theological studies, and to people in the ministry seeking further education. Historically St. Andrew's has always been a cradle of Prairie contextual theology emphasizing the study of scripture, theology, history, ethics, education, and pastoral care with careful attention to the significance of the gospel for the cultural, economic, and political realities facing the people of the prairies.
