Our Mission

The Jewish Historical Society of British Columbia (JHSBC) has operated for forty years as the central repository for preserving and celebrating the heritage of BC’s Jewish Community. The JHSBC is well-known in the community for its oral history recording program, its periodicals (The Scribe and The Chronicle), and for the numerous books it has published. The Nemetz Jewish Community Archives, administered by the JHSBC holds several well-known reference photograph collections, as well as the records of other Jewish community organizations and individuals from around British Columbia. In March 2007, the JHSBC opened the Jewish Museum and Archives of British Columbia (JMABC), which has worked collaboratively with Jewish and non-Jewish organizations and has successfully developed exhibits, numerous public and education programs and hosted events which have provided both the Jewish and the broader community of Greater Vancouver with a better understanding of Jewish heritage and identity.
