We operate two shelters in Fredericton - a Men's Shelter with 35 plus beds and Grace House for Women with 12 beds. Each year, nearly 500 men and women will stay at the Shelters. In total, we provide nearly 15,000 bed nights to homeless men and women in the Fredericton area. The length of stay ranges from one day to several months, depending on each client’s circumstances. The Shelters are open 23 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Approximately 75% of our clients suffer from a mental illness, either diagnosed or undiagnosed; up to 80% contend with addiction – drugs, alcohol, gambling. Low literacy skills and/or learning disabilities are common. Of course, many of our clients face a combination of challenges. It is estimated that less than 10% are employable for steady full-time work. We have provided shelter for men and women as young as 16 years of age and as old as 83 years of age.

Since 1899, Frontier College has been fighting poverty and isolation through the power of literacy and learning. We work with people who would otherwise be missed by the formal school system or who need extra support to achieve their goals: learners young and old, adults with multiple disabilities, street-involved youth, Aboriginal communities, migrant farm workers and new-comers to Canada.

Gateway Association is an organization that works with individuals who have developmental disabilities as well as their families. Gateway was incorporated in 1975 by a group of parents. The original focus of the group was exploring education alternatives for their children. When the parents gathered they found that they had something else to give to each other: shared common experience. Gateway envisions a community where all children grow within a family; all children learn together in neighborhood schools; all adults work at real jobs in the community; all adults will have a real home and real friends; and all people are valued, contributing members of their communities.

YMCA of Cape Breton Established in 1886, the YMCA of Cape Breton is the oldest, most diverse charity on Cape Breton Island. Golden Community Resource Society (GCRS) is the largest social service organization in Golden & Area A (by budget size and number of staff), with social service programs directed to a wide range of groups and ages. GCRS’s scope, leadership and support structure contribute to the organizations success and sustainability. Golden Community Resources Society (GCRS) is involved with many initiatives and programs, both supporting and leading. In everything we do, GCRS strengthens the Golden & CSRD Area A community and provides direct service.

The Golden Women's Resource Centre offers the following services and programs to women free of charge: safe homes program, shelter for women and children fleeing abuse, crisis support, outreach program, advocacy & support, internet access, resource library, Good Karma Clothing Exchange, computer support, children's playroom, cozy lounge, free condoms & female supplies, photocopying & faxing, Girlz Group program, workshops, and more!
