At WINS we understand that to develop human potential to its fullest we must do more than simply provide for the basic human needs of food, clothing, and shelter. The Ferret Rescue & Education Society (FRES) is a non-profit, charitable organization that was started by a small group of devoted ferret owners in the Calgary area who recognized the need for a locally based rescue dedicated to ferrets. Our committed volunteers assist FRES in their goal to find permanent homes for all of the ferrets surrendered to us. They also provide shelter, basic needs, veterinary care, and if necessary, rehabilitation for all abused, unwanted, and abandoned ferrets regardless of their health status. With the rapid rise in the popularity of ferrets as pets, there is a great need for public education. While ferrets make wonderful pets, it is important that those who select them, as well as those in contact with them, have access to the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding ferrets care. Our success in raising funds for the Hospital will be based on trust built through accountability, cost-effective programs, and a donor-centred approach to fundraising, recognition and stewardship. Our volunteers and staff demonstrate caring, empathy and compassion with a view to providing personal service and establishing long-term relationships with members of the community. We use your gifts to fund medical equipment our patients need that is not funded by the Ministry of Health. Your generosity helps us buy things such as surgical instruments, equipment for the ER, and important items required by our Obstetrics Department.

Colorectal cancer is currently the second leading cause of cancer death overall for men and women in Canada. Approximately 22 500 people will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer this year and sadly 9 100 will die of the disease. Despite these shocking numbers, the disease is still not well known or well understood. Current scientific literature indicates that up to 90% or more of colorectal cancer can be successfully treated or prevented through early detection and removal of pre-cancerous polyps and through diet and regular exercise.
The organization collects and distributes decorated shoeboxes filled with essential personal-care items and small comforts to women and gender-diverse people who are experiencing or at‑risk of homelessness. Through local drives and volunteer chapters it aims to restore dignity, reduce isolation, and build compassionate, connected communities.
Our services extend beyond simply providing food. Our programs are designed to build skills that help people move out of the cycle of poverty. We offer a full range of programs within our facility including: the provision of Emergency Food Assistance, the Food Co-operative program, Infant, Youth, Adult and Seniors Program and Employment Readiness Programs. Programs provided by outside agencies available at our facility include: Family Counselling Centre of Cambridge and North Dumfries; Waterloo Region Community Legal Services and ACCKWA.
The Down Syndrome Research Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals with Down syndrome and their families.
A dedicated team of Volunteers provide companionship, listening and emotional support to residents of our community who are facing a life threatening illness or injury. The Volunteers offer relief to enable primary caregivers to feel comfortable to take time away or rest. This care can be provided in a home, a hospital, or a long-term care setting. There are NO FEES for these services. Our Volunteers are people who display sensitivity, good communication skills, and willingness to help and have respect for the privacy, dignity and self-determination of the person. They are carefully screened and have completed an approved Volunteer Training Progrm. They receive ongoing education, supervision and group support. Agency governacy is by a volunteer Board of Directors which is drawn from all our communities.
