The mission of Dress for Success is to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

The Kidney Foundation of Canada is the national volutneer organization committed to reducing the burden of kidney disease through: funding and stimulating innovative research; providing education and support; promoting access to quality healthcare; and increasing public awareness and commitment to advancing kidney health and organ donation.

The North York Harvest Food Bank is the second-largest food bank in Toronto, distributing 1.8 million pounds of food last year through 60 neighbourhood programs. An independent, charitable organization, we envision a community where all members are able to meet their food needs. In 2009, more than 160,000 food hampers were provided to people living in northern Toronto through our member agency network of neighbourhood food banks, programs for expecting mothers and new parents, shelters for women and youth, and community kitchens. Our member agencies include social service agencies, community health centres, faith-based institutions, and volunteer-run organizations. In addition to our warehousing and distribution operations, we coordinate a youth engagement initiative, community garden activities, free pick-your-own farm trips, and a neighbourhood resource centre.

Our mission at The Toronto Humane Society is to promote the humane care and protection of all animals and to prevent cruelty and suffering. The day-to-day operation of the THS involves the direct handling of lost, abandoned, unwanted and injured pets. In any given year, approximately 10,000 animals pass through the shelter, which is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The injured receive veterinary care; abandoned animals are given a safe haven. Immature and injured animals are placed in foster care until they are strong enough to be placed for adoption. The Toronto Humane Society is supported solely by individual and corporate donations - we do not receive government funding of any kind.

Throughout the year, free of charge, Moisson Montreal recovers surplus food items and essential products and distributes them to community support groups all over the island of Montreal. The Moisson Montreal food bank, founded in 1984, also contributes to implementing sustainable solutions that foster self-sufficiency among the disadvantaged. Finally, Moisson Montreal endeavours to raise awareness to issues related to hunger and poverty among citizens and the appropriate government officials. Every year, Moisson Montreal distributes some 8.9 millions kilograms of foodstuffs to 212 agencies providing assistance to 148 460 people in need on the island of Montreal, 41 258 of them children.

The Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa (BGCO) has served the Ottawa community since 1923, reaching out to 4,500 children and youth each year through after-school, weekend and summer programs that build self-esteem and help to develop stronger social skills. We utilize an integrated model of age-appropriate social, recreational and academic activities that include proven strategies for building positive relationships, mentoring, conflict resolution, skill development and employment training. These programs are developed in collaboration with families, local schools and other community partners to create comprehensive healthy living opportunities for children and youth.

The Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre exists to support and empower women and children living in extreme poverty in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver, British Columbia. High levels of violence, homelessness, addictions and poverty characterize this area. Women and children are particularly vulnerable to exploitation, injustice and injury. We provide practical support to over 250 women and children daily to help them survive conditions of ill-health, violence and poverty. We work to provide security, basic needs and support. We also encourage women in making long-term changes by identifying and removing barriers to full participation in a larger community.

Founded in 1941 by the Rev. Morris and Annie Zeidman, The Scott Mission is a non-denominational Christian organization responding to the needs of the poor, homeless abandoned and vulnerable of all ages. Based in Toronto, the Mission offers practical, emotional and spiritual support for thousands of people each year. Among other services, the Mission offers daily hot meals, a low-cost daycare, a summer camp for children and youth, free good-quality clothing, groceries, shower and laundry facilites for the homeless, an overnight program, shelter, an after-school program and friendly visitation and retreats for shut-ins. While religious belief and practice are never conditions for receiving help and assistance, and everyone is welcome regardless of faith background, The Scott Mission is committed to the spiritual well-being of all people through the life and witness of Jesus Christ.

FoodShare develops innovative programs and education to improve access to affordable and healthy food, reaching over 159,000 children and adults every single month. We take a long-term approach to hunger and food issues, working to empower individuals, families and communities through food-based initiatives “from field to table.” FoodShare mentors communities in drawing on their own strengths to adapt and grow tools and scalable solutions so that our work is leveraged exponentially. Our programs include Student Nutrition, Field to Table Schools, the Good Food Café (healthy cafeteria), Focus on Food youth internships, the Good Food Box, Mobile and Good Food Markets, Fresh Produce for Schools, School Grown, Community Kitchens, the FoodLink Hotline, Power Soups, Community Gardening, Composting, Beekeeping, School Grown, and Urban Agriculture.

As Canada’s largest youth shelter, Covenant House Toronto opens doors of opportunity and hope to homeless youth. More than just a place to stay, we provide 24/7 crisis care and have the widest range of services under one roof, including education, counselling, health care and employment assistance. Kids come to Covenant House from every part of Canada and from every social and economic background. Most are fleeing or have been forced out of homes where there is abuse and neglect. The street is a dangerous and often deadly place for kids. Our doors are open to youth 16 to 24 regardless of race, creed, gender or the circumstances that have brought them to our threshold. Covenant House has helped thousands of young people move from a life on the streets to a life with a future. On average, about 4,000 young people turn to us annually.
