Founded in 2003, Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund (TLDEF) is committed to ending discrimination based upon gender identity and expression and to achieving equality for transgender people through test-case litigation, public education, direct legal services, community organizing and public policy efforts. In 2024, TLDEF merged with National Center for Transgender Equality (EIN 41-2090291) to form a new organization, Advocates for Trans Equality. The new organization will use NCTE's old EIN until it has its own tax-exempt determination from the IRS.
