MAITLAND VALLEY CONSERVATION AUTHORITY

The purpose of the MVCA is to protect water and related resources for present and future generations. The activities of the MVCA are driven by local municipalities, landowners and community organizations. We are committed to providing effective community-based conservation services in a cost efficient manner. We're excited to be launching Footprints to Forests, a new fund that enables donors to calculate their carbon footprint and then compensate for annual Green House Gas emissions by planting trees. Trees help to reduce the impacts of climate change and also provide benefits such as biodiversity and improved water quality. Donations to the Carbon Footprints to Forests program will be used to plant trees in Conservation Areas in the Maitland watershed. Visit www.footprintstoforests to calculate your carbon footprint. Donors are welcome to compensate for their whole carbon footprint or a portion of it. We welcome smaller donations, every tree counts!

Our clients include: - young people creating digital media and developing leadership skills - new arrivals to Canada using the Internet - job seekers and seniors taking computer courses - adults borrowing books and DVDs - groups attending lectures, discussions, poetry readings and concerts - older people going to financial literacy sessions - people with memory loss and their loved ones getting together at our Alzheimer Café - community and cultural groups renting our rooms.

NYO Canada

The NYOC's mission is to recruit the best young classical musicians ages 16-28 from across the country and prepare them for careers as professional orchestral musicians with leading orchestras in Canada and around the world. Each year the NYOC auditions more than 500 musicians for 90-100 positions in the orchestra for our annual summer training institute at Wilfrid Laurier University, a national concert tour with performances in some of Canada’s finest concert halls, and a professional recording session at McGill University’s studios. Training with the NYOC bridges the gap between music education and professional classical music careers. More than one-third of Canada’s professional orchestral musicians are alumni of the NYOC. Our alumni are members of major orchestras such as the Vancouver Symphony, the Calgary Philharmonic, the Edmonton Symphony, the Toronto Symphony, the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Montreal Symphony, the Canadian Opera Company and others around the world.
