Approximately 60% of the adult population in Hamilton do not have the literacy skills needed to meet the everyday demands at home, work and in the community. We help English-speaking adults to improve their basic (grade 1-grade 5) reading, writing and math skills through the work of trained, volunteer tutors. The student and tutor pair meet for approximately 4 hours per week. We also provide the option of Small Group instruction where 5-8 students learn basic skills in a class setting. Small Groups meet 9 hours per week.

Happy Corner Preschool is located in Vancouver BC. The school provides a two morning a week program for 3 year olds (teddy bears) and a 3 morning a week program for 4 year olds (caterpillars). The school is a registered Parent Participation Preschool.

Bearspaw Christian School is an accredited K-12 school that teaches Alberta curriculum from a Christian perspective.

We accomplish this by: • Developing community partnerships and providing rewarding opportunities for our staff and volunteers. • Providing a comprehensive resource centre and meeting place, which facilitates the sharing of knowledge within the horticulture community. • Providing horticulture education. • Demonstrating responsible stewardship of our forest and wetlands through sound habitat restoration, conservation and agro forestry practices. • Developing and maintaining diverse north Pacific demonstration gardens, designed to educate visitors on good horticulture practices and to provide public enjoyment.

To provide dynamic leadership for implementing what we see as universal values founded on fundamental Islamic values by contributing to the alleviation of poverty and securing better socio-economic life for the disadvantaged groups through empowering them to depend on themselves and participate in the decisions concerning their own problems. These values are echoed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other United Nations human rights instruments. The freedoms and responsibilities inherent in them lead directly to tolerance, pluralism, gender equality, public dialogue and non-violence to settle disputes, respect for all people regardless of differing characteristics – all part of what we call “Canadian values”.

The Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria (ICA) helps individuals and organizations to connect across cultures. We provide information, support and tools to help immigrants reach their goals. By engaging people through networks, education and arts programming we create a welcoming community. ICA offers services for newcomers, including settlement and integration counseling, translation and interpretation, English classes, mentoring, volunteer matching and peer support. We also provide outreach and education in the community through arts programming, as well as workshops on anti-racism, multiculturalism, diversity awareness, immigration and human rights.

The Adult Learning Centre is a community based non-profit Literacy and Basic Skills program that assists adults in improving their reading, writing, math, computer,communication and workforce readiness skills for employment, further education and training,and/or personal goals.

Junior Achievement of Nova Scotia (JA) has been the leading provider of youth financial education and entrepreneurial activities in the province for 40 years. JA programs help students understand economic principles and develop entrepreneurial, leadership and interpersonal skills. JA experiences promote the skills, understanding and perspectives students need to succeed in a global economy and be productive, contributing members of society with an emphasis on three areas: Financial literacy Entrepreneurship Work readiness In Nova Scotia, JA offers young leaders four programs free of charge, starting as early as grade six: Our Business World, the Economics for Success, JA Titan and the Company Program.

Junior Achievement of Central Ontario has provided hands-on experiences which help young people understand the economics of life since 1968. In partnership with educators and volunteers, Junior Achievement brings the real world to students, opening their minds to their potential, serving nearly 70,000 students in Central Ontario in 2008-2009 alone. Through the generous support of our volunteers and donors Junior Achievement provides relevant financial literacy and entrepreneurial programs. Every program is delivered by trained and inspiring volunteers who share their practical experience to encourage students to stay in school and to pursue their dreams. We are actively seeking more volunteers and donors to help us meet the tremendous demand for our programs. For over 50 years Junior Achievement has been engaging local business and community leaders of Alberta in its mission to help students develop an entrepreneurial attitude, a solid and practical understanding of business and finance and a commitment to community. In direct partnership with business and educators, Junior Achievement brings the real world to students, opening their mind and their potential. This has all been made possible through continued financial and voluntary support of companies and individuals, who share the Junior Achievement philosophy and ideals. Junior Achievement operates as two separate charitable organizations in Alberta, with separate legal identities. All monies raised on this website will be split between Junior Achievement of Southern Alberta and Junior Achievement of Northern Alberta and the Northwest Territories.

Since 1950,the Junior League of Calgary (JLC) has been working to bridge the gap between society's needs and existing community resources. The result is a legacy of training, leadership and voluntarism that has made a difference in Calgary. Past projects include the launch of Calgary Reads, Junior Chefs, Kids Help Phone, and Volunteer Calgary. Current projects promote healthy and active living for youth. We believe that education and support for youth is critical in building self-esteem and reversing the cycle of poverty. The Teen Tote project collects gifts and hygiene items for teenagers who would otherwise be missed during the Christmas season. Kids in the Kitchen is an international education initiative to empower children to lead healthier lives through hands-on activities related to nutrition, food preparation and physical fitness. Kids in Motion and Kids in the Arts introduce preschool concepts to at-risk children using story-telling, crafts, dancing, music and games.
