The foundation is charged with receiving donations, investing, and making expenditures exclusively for the benefit of Westfield State University, and particularly both to provide scholarships and to sponsor educational activities.  

The Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades prepares deserving young men to be useful and respected members of society. To accomplish the mission, Williamson gratuitously provides students with academic, trade, technical, moral and religious education, and a living environment based on the Judeo-Christian perspective that fosters the values of faith, integrity, diligence, excellence, and service.

WPI educates talented men and women in engineering, science, management, and humanities in preparation for careers of professional practice, civic contribution, and leadership, facilitated by active lifelong learning. This educational process is true to the founders' directive to create, to discover, and to convey knowledge at the frontiers of academic inquiry for the betterment of society.
