Our Goal: Indwell's goal is to restore hope and dignity to people. We attempt to overcome the stigma through educating people to understand many common and widespread misconceptions surrounding homelessnes. Our Motivation: Staff of Indwell share a Christian motivation to care for our residents, many of whom have experienced social marginalization, family disruption, and a loss of self esteem and dignity. We follow Christ's instruction to love our neighbors as ourselves. We therefore seek to enable each resident to reach their personal recovery goals.
What our clients have to say: “The year has passed – the first of new beginnings, hope, curiosity and a new language. The JIAS LINC school is more than a school for learning English. It is also a place to learn about Canadian history and culture, a place for making friends, and an information service." “I was invited to join Youth-to-Youth. Talking with others who shared my background, mentality and past experiences was exhilarating. Our leaders helped us engage in meaningful conversations about our feelings about Canada. The program gave me the opportunity to be more engaged in the community and learn leadership skills" “Just to let you know I have joined a company two weeks ago as Infrastructure Team Lead, where I lead teams of engineers in Toronto and the US. Thanks for all the support, mentoring, dedication and much more during my journey. If I will have an open position or so, I will definitively would call you to see if you have any potential candidates”.
The Unity Project operates on the values of mutual respect, cooperation, interdependence and compassion. In a home-like atmosphere, we provide men and women with drop-in, safe-bed, emergency shelter and two tiers of transitional housing plus program for intensive case management (Hostels to Homes) and street outreach. Serving between 50 and 70 people daily, our program works to empower residents to take care of themselves, each other and the function of their community. Cooking and cleaning together, we learn and practice important life skills, experience accountability and develop community. Open and accessible 24/7, frontline staff work one-to-one with each resident to develop and advance a personal action plan for stability and independence. The support of a diverse and caring community has followed the Unity Project from the momentous controversy of its tent-city protest chapter to its present day facility, two beautiful homes in the heart of Old East Village.

The Children's Book Bank provides free books and literacy support to low- income children in the greater Toronto area from its storefront location in Regent Park. The Children’s Book Bank is like a magical children’s bookstore, except that books are given free of charge to children and their families. We believe that book ownership is essential to early literacy and a life-long love of reading. Unfortunately, studies show that many low-income families cannot afford to purchase books. At the same time, many families and organizations have quality children’s books that they no longer need. Our organization connects demand and supply to ensure that all children can experience the joy, dignity and enrichment associated with book ownership. Since opening in May 2008, we have provided over 450 000 free books to children in low-income Toronto neighborhoods. For more information, please visit our website at www.childrensbookbank.com.
The Leading Note Foundation OrKidstra program was created in 2007 to give children from under-served communities the opportunity to learn a musical instrument and sing in a choir. Now in its sixth year, the OrKidstra program has over 200 children from more than 30 different linguistic backgrounds. This success has been enabled by the phenomenal support of Ottawa's community. The many financial, instrument, and in-kind donations – as well as several amazing fund-raising concerts – have given us the confidence to move forward and offer this opportunity to many more children. The OrKidstra program is bringing so many parts of the community together. This helps to strengthen the bonds between like-minded organizations to create a musical force loud and harmonious enough to make a big difference!
Summer camp is a unique opportunity to gain positive life-long skills and memories. Our funding benefits young people who need the chance to be in the outdoors in the company of good leaders and other campers. Campers learn cooperation, acceptance of others, sportsmanship, tolerance and an environmental ethic in a way that is difficult to duplicate elsewhere. It's an opportunity to develop self-confidence, group belonging and take risks in a safe environment. A camp experience is both worthwile and valuable; it's about creating wonder, joy, hope and confidence. Campers identified to Kids In Camp and selected for support will attend an accredited member camp of the Ontario Camps Association. Camp time is an experience which lasts a lifetime.
