The association is an all-volunteer group that preserves, promotes and protects Oakwood Cemetery’s historic, cultural, and natural resources. It raises funds and organizes volunteers to maintain and restore monuments, buildings (including the Silsbee Chapel), and grounds, and offers public tours and educational programs to interpret the site’s history.
The Soulsville Foundation preserves and promotes the legacy of Stax Records and the Soulsville USA neighborhood while using that musical heritage to educate and develop Memphis youth. It operates the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, the Stax Music Academy, and supports the Soulsville Charter School to provide music-rich education and career pathways for young people.
