The mission of the Chicago Zoological Society is to inspire conservation leadership by connecting people with wildlife and nature.
Rescue, rehome, rehabiliate rabbits and educate the public
Providing permanent sanctuary for non-releasable bats, the protection and conservation of wild bat colonies, promoting the humane treatment of bats in captivity, educating the public about the importance of bats, and training animal care professionals on the proper treatment of bats. We believe that great animal rescue organizations are judged not just by the scale of the work that they do, but by the impact that work has on the lives of the animals they serve. We actively work with zoos, researchers and animal shelters to offer an alternative to death. Many of the bats in our care have lived terrible lives before coming to us. We provide the security and privacy they need to recuperate from their previous existence. Our facility is currently the only accredited bat sanctuary in the world.

Saddlebred Rescue (SBR) AKA American HorseAdoption is a truly unique rescue that incorporates the thinking and practicesof a professional show stable with the realities of the plight of unwantedhorses today. SBR buys all horses in our program mostly fromauctions and sales where they were slaughter bound. We have our ownprofessional trainer who works with each horse to evaluate and design aschooling program to help the horse be as adoptable as possible. All horses in our program are evaluated by twoprofessional horse trainers before they are placed. Each horse’s overall health condition isassessed by our staff, and veterinarian, if necessary, and immediately-neededhealth issues are treated. Chronic conditions are recorded as such. All SBR horses are in a lifetime program andwill always have the option of being returned to SBR if the adopter’scircumstances change. SBR encourages every potential adopter to visitour facility and try out any of our treasures that may be a potential match. While we encourage visits, we understand it isnot always possible to visit us on-site. In these cases, our trainers work withyou to understand your needs and to pick out a horse that is perfect for you.Our placement rate is very high and returns to SBR for incompatibility arealmost nonexistent.Every day our professionals work to improve thecare, training and placement of our treasures. We rescue and rehome dogs (primarily) from local hi-kill shelters. We focus on but are not limited to special needs animals (deaf, blind, otherwise disabled and seniors). We provide foster homes to start and provide whatever it takes (rehab, medical, training etc) to make sure the animal never ever goes back into the shelter system. We are available to our adopters for the life of the animal, should they need assistance.
