Our totally volunteer operated Humane Society has served Gananoque and the former Front of Leeds Township (now Ward 1 of Leeds & the Thousand Islands) since 1989. Since 1992 we have been a full service affiliate of the Ontario SPCA, managed by an elected Board consisting of local members of the communities we serve. In our history we have never euthanized a healthy adoptable pet just to make space in our Shelter for another. We rescue, rehabilitate and re home about 300 dogs, cats and other small domestic pets annually. Our volunteers raise the money to cover our operating costs through adoption fees, donations, continuous fund raising efforts and occasional help from the municipalities we serve. We are just one small charity trying to address the community problem of homeless animals. We can’t succeed without broad support from everyone in our community. Our Mission is 1. To undertake and support research and long term monitoring of wildlife populations of the marine and terrestrial ecosystems of Haida Gwaii, especially the Laskeek Bay Area. 2. To provide opportunities for non-scientists, especially students and local residents of Haida Gwaii, to participate as volunteers in our field programs, and to offer training to impart necessary field research skills. 3. To promote better understanding of the marine and terrestrial ecosystems of Haida Gwaii, especially the Laskeek Bay area, by providing information to youth, local residents, and to the public in general in the form of publications, meetings and exhibits. 4. To promote the conservation of native species and to develop public awareness of the changes caused by introduced species to Haida Gwaii. 5. To support and assist other programs aimed at providing better knowledge, management, and conservation of ecosystems on Haida Gwaii.

MARS provides a safe, stress-free environment, along with treatment, for wildlife to recover. We contribute to the knowledge and understanding of wildlife by participating in research, and sharing information with wildlife and professional organizations and the general public through meetings, lectures, displays, workshops, seminars, conferences, reports, publications and social media.

Pacific Assistance Dogs raises and trains Service Dogs to assist persons with physical disabilities, Hearing Dogs for those who are deaf or hard of hearing, and Facility/Therapy Dogs placed with caregivers in long term care facilities. PADS accomplishes this with no government funding and relies solely on the generousity of individuals, corporations, and through fundraising efforts.

The Fort McMurray Society for the prevention of Cruelty to Animals provides care and a safe haven for more than 1000 homeless, abused and abandoned animals annually within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. The FMSPCA was the first and remains the only not for profit, no-kill animal advocacy organization working in the region since being founded in 1978. Our goal is to ensure every companion animal in the Wood Buffalo community is humanely treated through protection, proper care, public awareness and education. Our comprehensive adoption process and community involvement facilitates lasting bonds and relationships for companion animals, pet owners and the public.

The Wildlife Rehabilitation Society of Edmonton (WRSE) is committed to proper environmental stewardship and recognizes the important role we play in conserving Alberta’s native species through services and programs we provide to the community. WRSE is a non-profit, charitable organization that provides compassionate care for injured and orphaned wildlife in Edmonton and surrounding areas. Since 1989, we have helped more than 11,000 birds and mammals receive proper medical treatment with the ultimate goal of returning these animals to their natural habitat. In addition to providing our patients with top quality care, WRSE recognizes the impact of human encroachment on the city’s natural ecosystem; therefore, we provide the Edmonton community with education relating to human-wildlife interaction.

The UCHS receives no funding from the government and relies on the support of donors and volunteers to maintain the operation. With a focus on education and community involvement, the UCHS reinforces its message of responsible pet ownership with an emphasis on safety, respect, care and compassion towards animals.

Le Nichoir was founded in 1988 in Vaudreuil-Soulanges. A group of volunteers started taking care of injured and orphaned wild birds in their homes. In 1994, the Centre moved to 637 Main Road, Hudson, QC for the summer months to an old and unwinterized barn. That year, 487 birds were cared for. In 2013, the public brought 1 500 wild birds including hundreds of ducklings to the Centre. Le Nichoir organizes several free public events and workshops. Two full time employees, 4 summer students and over 70 volunteers are at the heart of the Centre's operations. Le Nichoir is unique in Quebec, it has become an important educational and scientific resource. It is the largest rehabilitation centre for song birds in Canada. Le Nichoir is currently raising funds for the construction of the new Wild Bird Conservation Centre. This 4 season facility will replace the unwinterized barn, will have more rehabilitation space and a classroom.

The Atlantic Wildlife Institute, formerly known as Maritime Atlantic Wildlife, was established in 1996, near Sackville, New Brunswick. A provincially and federally licensed wildlife rehabilitation facility, it studies displaced wildlife to determine causes of displacement and integrates its findings with larger issues of environmental education and management. It provides young people with exceptional opportunities for experiential learning about nature. Other AWI programs include: ecological research; safe wildlife handling; consultation and response in wildlife-related emergencies.

TLC Animal Aid was founded over 20 years ago in Windsor, Ontario by a group of wonderfully caring women. We are a non-profit no-kill animals rescue group. We receive no government funding, but rely solely on donations of our supporters and our fundraising efforts. We take in abandoned, abused, neglected and stray cats and dogs and find them loving homes. They receive all the medical treatment that is necessary and are placed into caring foster homes until a permanent home can be found. We also have a TNR program to help assist with the overpopulation of animals in this area. You can help and give them the life and the love they wish they always had! Unfortunately it can happen that the veterinary care needed to treat a sick or injured animal is more expensive than owners expect. This can force owners to make a heartbreaking choice between coming up with the funds to continue treatment or suspending the treatment and having to consider euthanizing their pet. As part of its mission to give animlas the best possible veterinary care, the DMV Center has created the DMV Foundation. This non profit organization provides financial help to owners whose pets are being treated at the Center and who cannot afford the full cost of the treatment. MEOW Foundation is the best known and most respected, no-kill feline rescue and humane society in Alberta. MEOW has a unique three-prong program approach to humanely control and reduce feline over-population: Rescue and Adoption, SNAP (Spay Neuter Assistance Program) for low income Calgarians and TNR (Trap Neuter Return) program for feral cats.
