Our Mission

The Canadian Chihuahua Rescue and Transport (CCRT) was originally created in July 1999 to respond to the ever-growing need for a breed-specific Chihuahua rescue organization in Canada.

Several people, who had met online in a Chihuahua chat group, formalized their desires to help and the CCRT was born. The CCRT now has Regional Coordinators and volunteers in every province who work together to rescue and rehome our very special dogs all across the country.

The CCRT endeavours to match homeless Chihuahuas with loving new adoptive homes that have been carefully screened by approved volunteers and to provide follow-up support to new owners. We ensure that all Chihuahuas placed through the CCRT are spayed/ neutered, microchipped and properly vaccinated.

We are also committed to humane education and reinforcing the importance of responsible pet ownership. Our fundraising events generate revenue to assist us in every aspect of our mission and statement.
