Our Mission

The Town of York Historical Society operates Toronto's First Post Office, which is a post office museum and National Historic Site. As a working museum, Toronto's First Post Office operates a Canada Post Corporation authorized dealership as a continuation of the site's original purpose.

The museum provides education programs for children and adults, is the custodian of a significant collection of letter-writing paraphernalia and early 19th century correspondence. The collection also includes artifacts pertaining to the history of early Toronto and the Town of York.

The Town of York Historical Society is a legally incorporated non-profit organization, members of the National Historic Sites Alliance for Ontario, the Ontario Museum Association, Canadian Museums Association, the Ontario Historical Society, and numerous other local historical societies and related organizations.
