Pledge to make a difference, together.
The District Alliance for Safe Housing (DASH) is an innovator in providing access to safe housing and services for survivors of domestic and sexual violence and their families as they rebuild their lives on their own terms.
We seek to strengthen and expand the local safety net for survivors by providing high quality, voluntary services that are responsive to their individual needs and by engaging lawmakers, community members, service providers, and survivors in the movement to make safe housing more accessible in the short-term and less necessary in the long-term.
DASH is the largest dedicated safe housing provider for survivors of domestic and sexual violence and their families in Washington, DC.
Amanda* and her son Marcus* were welcomed into DASH’s Safe Housing Program, Cornerstone. Amanda came to Cornerstone with many goals, but there was one in particular that was critical for her and her son to rebuild their lives after abuse. Amanda was in debt from years of financial abuse and that made her feel overwhelmed. During her first two months at Cornerstone, Amanda took the time to heal from the trauma that she and Marcus experienced. Cornerstone provided this safe place to find respite and sanctuary and allowed Amanda the option to heal on her own terms without the pressure of short-term housing or mandated program participation. Amanda then set a goal while she started to meet with her Advocate at Cornerstone – she wanted to pay off her debt and learn how to manage her money. In March , Amanda reached this goal and was able to pay off her debt and for the first time was debt-free! Thank you for investing in DASH to support survivors like Amanda to have the ability to set their own goals, a feeling of empowerment, and not have to worry about housing instability or homelessness while recovering from abuse. (*Names changed to protect their safety).
