The southern coast of Haiti has been devastated by Hurricane Matthew. The catastrophic damage came with little warning. 2.1 million people are affected, 1.140 million are in need of humanitarian assistance. 90% of the homes have been destroyed, most have lost nearly every possession including homes and businesses. In addition to their individual losses, they have seen the widespread devastation to their friends, families, churches and local businesses that provide material and spiritual sustenance to their lives. The destruction and lack of infrastructure impede on the delivery of much needed humanitarian assistance to the affected community. HRA has been authorized to be the fiscal agent of the diaspora fundraising effort for short term relief, long term recovery and sustainability of the affected areas. The goal is to raise $100,000,000 (one hundred million dollars) to rebuild the destroyed homes and infrastructure of the affected communities. Of the funds collected, 80% will go toward rebuild and the recovery of local communities, 10% toward funding diaspora-led relief initiatives, 5% will be designated for long term disaster preparedness and 5% toward administrative cost.
