The Western Pennsylvania Humane Society was founded in 1874 to protect the elderly, children and animals in our region. Today, the mission of the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society is to provide the most comprehensive, compassionate and educational services to enhance the lives of companion animals for families and the community, and to educate and prevent the cruelty of all animals in the region we serve. Our efforts include: *OPENDOOR SHELTER:We always accept any pet or animal in need. * HUMANE INVESTIGATIONS: WPHS Humane Officers investigate over 1,100 cases of neglect and abuse each year. *EDUCATION:Our staff and volunteers educate 3,000 school children about safe, ethical treatment of animals though our school outreach programs. *CLINIC:Clinics in two locations offering wellness services, low cost spay/neuter, vaccines and medications at an affordable cost. Our clinics and Humane Investigations Officers facilitate proper care of pets in our communities. *OPERATIONS:Ensures all shelter pets are properly cared for through medical care, enrichment and training. *ADOPTION:Meet Your Match - Canine-ality and Feline-ality matches pets in need of their fur-ever home with the perfect family. WPHS works with families to create a lasting, happy bond between pets and their new families. * ELLIES PET PANTRY:Provides food and other daily necessities like kitty litter and toys to families experiencing financial difficulties. Our goal is to keep pets and families together. -SENIOR CITIZENS AND SENIOR PETS:Many people in our community can benefit from the well documented benefits of having a pet in their lives. Pairing senior shelter pets with senior citizens helps everyone.
